Now that January is over and you promised yourself that you were going to do all these great things for your New Year’s Resolution like: Blog Everyday, Comment on Blogs, Create or Improve your Blog, Create or Improve your Fan Page, or (Fill in the Blank).  Are you happy with what you achieved?  Did you achieve any of the goals that you set out to do? I am asking myself these same questions.  It does not matter what level you are on in your business. You could always do better.

 

 

Below are some tips that you should implement for the rest of 2012:

 

1.   Dedicate 2-3 hours a day on income producing activities. They need to be things that will produce leads or drive traffic to your website, such as blogging, cutting videos, webinars, paid advertising, etc.  Do whatever your budget can afford, just remember to make the most of your time and money.  Also remember that once you get these leads to actually call them to enroll them in your primary business, affiliate program, or whatever you are promoting.

2.   Make sure you take out time to get your mind right! Even though friends and family mean well and think that they have your best interest at heart, they still can be very negative when it comes to your business.  That’s why it’s important to make sure that your listen to something inspirational everyday such as a wake up call that may be given by your favorite coach or marketing mastermind group.

3.   Stay connected with people that can help you get to the next level and actually follow their advice. Nothing upsets a coach more than a student that asks for help and then that student does not do a darn thing.  The coach is happy to get your money but is puzzled as to why you are not doing the things that your were told to do for success.

4.   There is never a perfect time to get started. A lot of times we put things off until we feel that they are just right.  Don’t worry about things being perfect!  Just start where you are right now and do continuous improvement as you go along.

5.   Don’t let the forces of evil take your attention away from your goals! What are the forces of evil? – Negative friends and family, Television (News, Reality Shows, Sit-Coms, etc), Radio (Listen to Success CDs instead of the “music” that are playing in the radio), Spending money on entertainment (Clubbing, Concerts, Movies, Going out to Dinner, Shopping, etc.).  I am not saying that you can never have any fun.  Just limit these thieves of your time and money.  Make sure that you are not letting these “fun” activities get in the way of building your business.  Get your work done first and then play.

Yes, January is gone but its not to late to make 2012 a banner year.  Get working on your goals now.  Don’t worry about 2013 sneaking up on you….You should start worrying now about Feb and March.  The end of the first quarter of the year will be here before you know it.  Let’s close out the quarter and the rest of the year on a good note!

When you work your own home business it is very important to have the right mindset.  I know personally because many of my friends and family do not believe that you can make a full time income with network marketing. Most people have a job mentality and do not feel that they could make money any other kind of way.  Because of this is very important to keep your mind conditioned for you to be successful in your network marketing business.

One way to do this is to read books about network marketing.   As a network marketer it imperative that you continue to educate yourself.  Don’t worry you do not have to back to school!  There are many books and courses that you can take on your own that will help you in your business.  Below is a list of my top 3 books that new network marketers should read.  Even if you are a veteran network marketer these books are good to read or if you have read them already then read them again.  You are bound to learn something that you missed the first time around!

Here is the list:

1.
Your First Year in Network Marketing: Overcome Your Fears, Experience Success, and Achieve Your Dreams! – by Mark Yarnell and Renee Reed Yarnell – This book is crucial for new network marketers and for those that have gone past their first year but still have not quite figured it out yet. In this book you will learn about battling rejection, avoiding depression, handling prospects, supervising recruits, and managing time. Reading this book will save you a whole lot of sleepless nights because it give you a heads up on what to expect in your business.

2.
Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard – This book changed how I look at sales and network marketing.  This book teaches you how to draw prospects to you rather than you chasing them down.  You will also learn how to target people that are looking  for an mlm opportunity rather that deal with people that have no interest at all.  Magnetic Sponsoring shares with you the importance of creating a brand of yourself by utilizing online and offline marketing techniques which make you become the hunted instead of the hunter.

 

3.
The Business of the 21st Century by Robert Kiyosaki , Kim Kiyosaki, and John Fleming – In this book Robert Kiyosaki explains why the old advice of ”get a good education, find a good job, work hard for forty years, invest in stocks and real estate, etc.” — no longer works in the Information Age.  Kiyosaki also shows why network marketing is one of the best ways to make a high income with such a low investment especially in the current economic situation.  This is a great read that puts the industry in perspective without all of thy hype that usually goes along with it.

 

These are just a few of the books that I believe that new network marketers should start off with.  Heaven knows that there are plenty more to read but these 3 provide a good foundation for the someone new to the industry. I know you may be thinking that you are too busy to read but try to fit in just an hour a day.  Maybe in the morning before work on on your lunch break.  Educating yourself will help you keep your healthy entreprenurial mindset and also help you to be a better leader for your team.

Whenever I mention the word network marketing or mlm while promoting my business I get 2 very extreme views.  Most people don’t like it or either don’t understand it and  even have hatred for it.  The few people that I talk to that actually have entrepreneurial minds love the concept and will actually listen to what I have to offer.
Network marketing is  just another business model and if you are going to be successful it is crucial that you understand how it works.

I think there are basically two reasons that some people seem to go into a FRENZY when someone mentions the word network marketing. Either they or a family member has tried it, and because they didn’t have a clue on how to market their business they failed miserably. Secondly, most people are ignorant about the network marketing industry.  They haven’t done an ounce of research and automatically equate network marketing with a pyramid scheme.

When you think about it you will find that Corporate America is more like a pyramid scheme than network marketing.  Each company has a CEO, President, Vice – Presidents, Middle Management, Sales Force, and Hourly Employees.  Every body know that the CEO is going to make the most money and the salaries decrease as you go down the totem pole.  The only way to get paid more is to play office politics in order to get into upper management.  You may also have to pray that someone retires or gets fired in order for you to get promoted.  The funny is that people feel that this is normal and okay.  How is this any less pyramid than network marketing? All people in the company work hard, but ONLY those at the very top has “permission” to make a lot of money.

On the Contrary, in network marketing the basic idea is that it will be of great benefit to everyone involved to help people who are new reach the top. In fact the whole business idea hinges on this idea – the only way to become really successful in the long term is to help others. Of course there will always be a mathematical limit to how large a network can become, but with today’s global marketplace, and a suitable compensation plan, there is usually plenty of room for everybody.

But what about the miserable statistics of network marketing, the over 90% drop-out rate etc.?  This is mainly caused by the simple fact that not that many people know how to do network marketing correctly. And I must admit that some network marketing companies are responsible for this themselves, by providing useless ideas like making a “100 list” etc.  This is why your upline can’t help you many times because they are still doing network marketing the old way – approaching any and everyone about their business.

If you are going to be involved in network marketing you need to develop both the right mind set and acquire the right knowledge (no, they usually don’t teach this in college).

You must learn that when you do this business right:
* You don’t have to “sell”
* You don’t have to post “work at home” flyers!
* People will PAY YOU to prospect them
*You don’t have to approach strangers at the mall and in the grocery stores.
* You don’t have to ask people to join your business. They ask you!

Being in the network marketing industry can be very rewarding if your are successful.   Building your business can be very frustrating as you make your climb to the top.  Below are the top 10 frustrations faced by all of us in network marketing.

1.  No One To Talk To- You have already exausted your warm market list or friends and family.  This is the first place that your upline sponsor tells you to go.  This is not the greatest idea all the time because you don’t want to alienate your friends and family.  Also, most of your friends and family are not qualified to go into business for themselves anyway.  You need to have a way to attract people that are looking for an opportunity.

2.  No Money To Market Your Business – In order to be successful in network marketing you have to be able to advertise your business and this takes money.  Because of this, new marketers begin to spend more money than they are actually making and they tend to drop out of business because of this.

3.  Don’t Know How To Market – Many network marketers know how to network but they don’t know how to market.  It’s called network marketing not network networking.  You need to find a way to learn how to market your business if you want to be successful.

4.  Your Autoship Has Just Become Another Bill – It takes time to build up a residual income in network marketing and when you are paying $100 a month and receiving little to nothing for it it becomes frustrating.

5.  No Upline Support – Your upline swears that they are going to help you but once they sign up they are no where to be found.

6.  Constantly Having To Recruit – Becausee it’s hare for a new recruit to make money in network marketing they tend to drop out after 60-90 days so you are constantly recruiting to fill the holes in your downline.

7. Not Enough Quality Leads – Lead Generation is the life blood of your network marketing business, but buying leads is not the answer.  You must learn to generate your own highly targeted leads.

8.  Credibility – When you first start out in network marketing you have to build up your credibility.  People don’t want to follow anyone who has no experience.

9.  Duplication – Once you recruit people into your organization they don’t know how to duplicate your efforts.  They just sign up and don’t do any work.

10.  No Way To Follow Up – The old philosophy in network marketing is “Some will. Some won’t. So what. So Next.”  If you have an autoresponder you can keep in touch with the prospects that don’t join your business.  You would still be able to send them information about your company and/or products & services even though they said no to your primary opportunity.

In order to solve all of these frustrations you need to have a system in place that will provide training for you and that shows how to use the internet to market your network marketing business.  There are may systems out there but you want to choose the one that brands you as a leader.  Having a system in place can be the difference in being successful or failing in your network marketing business.

In the past few months we have seen three major companies close their MLM side and as a result displace their distributors: XELR8, Arbonne, and most recently ILearning Global. XELR8 and ILearning Global simply wanted to change they way they market and Arbonne is going through a bankruptcy. This is a very sad thing for distributors because they may have spent years building a team and all of a sudden that income is taken away from them overnight. There are three important things that you must do in order to survive if this happens to you: Brand Yourself, Build a List, and have Multiple Streams of Income.

There are many ways to brand yourself on the internet. One way is to secure a personal domain name and create a web presence such as JohnDoe.com or WhoIsJohnDoe.com. Here you can post all your blog entries and videos. It helps you brand yourself as an expert in your niche. Also, utilize social media networks. Set up profiles on these sites and try to use the same headshot so that people will begin to recognize you.

Building a list is very important in your network marketing business. How many times have your heard that the money is in the list? Utilizing capture pages and auto-responders like Aweber will allow you to keep in touch with people that you speak to about your opportunity on autopilot. Even if they don’t join your company right away, if you keep in touch with them they may join you at a later date. Also if you move on to another company voluntarily or involuntarily, and if you have a good relationship with your list, they may follow you to your new opportunity.

Last but not least, it is important to have multiple streams of income. One way that you can achieve this is by becoming an affiliate marketer. An affiliate marketer sells other peoples products. So you don’t have to have your own product to make money! You can find products to sell on Clickbank or Shareasale (there are also many others). When a sale is made by a customer that you referred, you earn a percentage of the sale. Some of the merchants on these sites will even pay you just for sending them leads. Affiliate marketing is great because it allows you to generate an income even if your prospect does not join your primary business.

So once again, in order to “Keep Your Shirt” you need to do three main things: Brand Yourself, Build a List, and set up Multiple Steams of Income. If you have these in place then it does not matter what happens to your primary company. It may still hurt you emotionally but at least it won’t make as large a dent in you bottom line.
